BEHIND THE LENS

Visual Lyrics didn’t begin as a brand or a plan. It began as a necessity.

My life didn’t suddenly become difficult after a workplace accident — it had already been hard. The accident was simply the final piece that forced everything into the open. It changed what my body could handle, slowed me down in ways I didn’t choose, and took away the comfort of moving forward on momentum alone. The work I relied on became uncertain, and the silence that followed was impossible to ignore.

That’s where the work began.

Photography gave me a way to stay present when my world narrowed. Writing gave me a way to make sense of what I was seeing — and feeling. Together, they became Visual Lyrics — image and language working side by side to say what neither could hold alone.

I started paying closer attention to overlooked spaces. Weathered landscapes. Empty structures. Quiet places charged with tension. Through the lens and the page, I found structure again — a way to observe without performing, to translate experience without softening it.

Since the injury, this work has grown beyond survival. My photography and writing have been published, exhibited, and recognized — milestones I reached not by chasing validation, but by staying disciplined and honest with the work. Each step forward came slowly, deliberately, built on attention rather than spectacle.

The themes remain consistent: endurance, isolation, beauty tangled with discomfort. I’m drawn to what’s ignored not because it’s dramatic, but because it’s truthful. These are spaces that don’t demand attention — they hold it, quietly, if you stop long enough.

Behind the lens and beneath the pen, this work keeps me grounded. It gives shape to chaos. It keeps me sane. And if it asks anything of the viewer or reader, it’s simply this: slow down, and notice what you’ve learned to walk past.
